Call for applications: NAS 2016 Courses at ICUA

In 2016 ICUA Zadar will continue to organize Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) courses. NAS courses aim to provide not just an introduction to the underwater archaeology, but also offer people a chance to build their skills and experience, allowing them to take part in projects and fieldwork around the world and perhaps to run their own projects.

The ICUA Team will conduct NAS courses during 2016 in city Bale close to Rovinj. Theoretical lectures will be conducted at the diving club The Old Diver in Campsite Mon Perin, and practical exercises will be conducted in the underwater environs of Bale County.

- Part I Certificate in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology - 4th - 5th May 2016
- Part II - practical underwater work for gaining data for writing Final report will be conducted in period from 2nd-7th May 2016 in archaeological site Piruzi near Rovinj

Introduction to foreshore and underwater archaeology course will consist of theoretical lectures - Site types and dating methods, Underwater finds, 2D survey and practical session - drawing on land and underwater (one dive).

Part I certificate in foreshore and underwater archaeology course will consist of theoretical lectures - Carrying out an archaeological project, Locating and exploring a site, Project safety and logistics, 3D survey, Dealing with finds, Post field activity and practical sessions - getting to know a site and recording a site (two dives).

Courses requirements
The requirements for the Introduction to Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology and for Part I Certificate in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology are Open Water Diver (OWD), CMAS* or an equivalent diving certificate, medical certificate ensuring fitness for diving and diving insurance.

Corse fee includes:

-    NAS training record card
-    printed materials for different course modules
-    renting and filling of diving air tanks during the course
-    magazine Submerged heritage
-    one year IJNA or Online Newsletter membership to the NAS

Diving equipment should be brought by participants or it can be rented at a local diving club (expenses not covered by the organizers). The organizers will cover the costs of renting and filling diving air tanks during the course.

Participants should arrange transportation to Bale bay and back by themselves at their own expense.

Participants should arrange accommodation during the courses in Bale by themselves at their own expense, and for those who are interested; there is possibility to arrange accommodation in Campsite Mon Perin.

There are a limited number of participant slots available for each course, so send in your applications as soon as possible!
