Courses of underwater archaeology in 2012

In cooperation with the UNESCO office in Venice, diving and underwater archaeology courses will be held in the organization of ICUA Zadar. In the period from 4 to 16 of June, Basic course for underwater archaeology will be held in Zadar, and a Advanced course for those who already have some practical experience in this branch of archaeology will be held in September in Pula. We are currently accepting applications for the Basic course and will soon publish a call for the Advanced course. Lecture on research of the Suleiman's bridge

An expert lecture about research of Suleiman's bridge in Darda was held in the premises of the ICUA Zadar on 24.4.2012 for the representatives of Turkish ministry of culture and tourism, Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), the Turkish Embassy and the Croatian experts. The research of this important archaeological site was run for the last several years by Mladen Peši? of ICUA Zadar, in cooperation with the Croatian Conservation Institute. Turkish-Croatian delegation has also examined the wooden parts of the bridge which are located in the Department for conservation and restoration of underwater finds in Zadar.

ICUA Zadar became NAS International Training Partner

After successful completion of the instructor course in Zadar last week, ICUA archaeologists Mladen Peši?, and Luka Beki? became instructors in the NAS Training programme. NAS - Nautical Archaeology Society of Portsmouth, UK is one of the most famous international organizations dealing with maritime archaeology in the world. The NAS International Training Programme has been delivering courses in nautical archaeology for over 25 years.

Research in the Bay of Vestar Rovinj

In early April a new campaign of underwater archaeological research was conducted in the Bay of Veštar near Rovinj. Research was conducted in the organization of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology (Bayerischen Gesellschaft für Unterwasserarchäologie) and the Homeland Museum of Rovinj. This year we surveyed the locations of potential third pier on the north of the bay and performed the initial trenching and documentation of the second pier.

Cooperation, partnerships and funding of the Regional Centres of Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe

The first meeting of the Regional Centres of Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe with the theme: Cooperation, partnerships, funding, which was held at the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology is completed. The meeting was opened with welcoming speeches by the Deputy Minister of Culture prof. Berislav Šipuš, Head of Culture Unit UNESCO Office in Venice Anthony Krause and MCPA director dr. Luka Beki?.

First Meeting of the Regional Centres for Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe: Cooperation, Partnerships, Funding, will be held in the premises of the International centre for underwater archaeology on 23rd March 2012.The meeting is organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the UNESCO Venice Office, in cooperation with International Centre for Underwater Archaeology and the Croatian Commission for UNESCO.
