Research of ancient shipwrecks of the Cape Uljeva finally started

From 9.9. to 22.9.2012.g. the systematic exploration of ancient shipwrecks of the cape Uljeva naer Li�njan has begun. After several years of surveying sea bottom and trial trenching, a systematic study of these interesting shipwrecks finally began. This year most of the time was devoted to set up a fixed network and document the site, and only towards the end the excavation of the shipwreck Uljeva B started. Research of Uljeva shipwrecks are lead by dr.sc.Luka Beki? and Mladen Pe�i? from the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar in collaboration with specialist mr.sc.Miran Eri? from the Institute for Protection of Cultural heritage of Slovenia. Research is being conducted under the auspices of the Local community of Li�njan. During the research the international Advanced Course of underwater archeology trough ICUA / UNESCO program was conducted.

Advanced course in underwater archaeology at Li�njan is completed

During the research of ancient shipwrecks off the cape Uljeva near Li�njan, the international Advanced Course of underwater archaeology according to the ICUA Zadar programme was conducted. A course was attended by seven young scholars from different countries - Slovenia, Croatian, Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Montenegro. They had opportunities to take the specialty diving courses in the diving centre KL-SUB in Banjole, listen theoretical presentation of archaeologists and other experts in the Municipality of Li�njan and participate in archaeological excavations off the cape Uljeva. The project is co organised and supported by the UNESCO office in Venice.

This year's survey of Croatia's seabed with research vessel Hercules has finished

The departure of the American research vessel Hercules towards Montenegro ended this year's campaign of survey of bigger depth of our seabed. This project was realized in cooperation between the RPM Nautical Foundation of Florida, International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar and the Ministry of Culture of Croatia. During the first week underwater survey from Prevlaka to Cavtat was completed with use of sonars (multi-beam). During the following week, elected positions were examined with an underwater robot (ROV).

ICUA Zadar and RPM Nautical surveying the Konavle seabed

ICUA Zadar and RPM Nautical from Florida are currently surveying the Konavle seabed, south Croatian coastline. Survey is done with multi-beam from ship Hercules, and more than ten new interesting positions are discovered. These marked positions, at depth from 30 to 100 meters, are going to be checked with ROV this week!

Second course of underwater archeology at ICUA Zadar just finished

Young archaeologists from five countries had just left the city of Zadar. They stayed here for the two weeks of intensive diving and underwater archeology course. This training was organized by the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, together with the UNESCO office in Venice. The theoretical part of the teaching took place in Zadar and the practical part at Pako�tane. Young archaeologists who have been trained in our UNESCO Centre had no experience in underwater archeology so far. An Advanced UNESCO underwater archaeologist's course is being prepared for September, for those who already have some experience in underwater archeology.
