The second issue of Submerged Heritage published

A new issue of the centre's yearbook, Submerged Heritage 2, was printed last month. In this issue, you will find many articles describing the activities of the center, from the fields of education, conservation and marine research in Croatia. As a novelty, this issue of Submerged Heritage brings articles that describe research in other countries, such as Slovenia, Montenegro and Cyprus. We hope that this yearbook will become a joint international underwater archeology magazine for the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. ICUA archaeologists gave lectures in Vienna

Underwater archaeologists from International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar held a lectures for the students and faculty of the University of Vienna at the invitation of the Working Group for Underwater Archaeology (AK Unterwasserarch�ologie) of the Austrian Society for Prehistory and Early History (�sterreichische Gesellschaft f�r Ur- und Fr�hgeschichte). Lectures in English were held on Tuesday, the 4th December 2012, between 18 and 20 hours in Hall 7 of the Institute of Prehistory and Early History in Franz-Klein-Gasse 1. Mladen Pe�i? gave a lecture, "The remains of Suleiman's Bridge at Darda lake in Baranja" and Luka Beki? lecture on "Deep Sea Survey with Research Vessel Hercules near Dubrovnik."

International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar organizes lectures on the topics of underwater archeology in Croatia

As a part of the doctoral study in archaeology, Marko Me�trov from agency Han-Vrana and Mladen Pe�i? from the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology will hold lectures related to topics of their dissertations. Therefore Mark Me�trov shall present "Navigation in Pa�man Channel in antiquity" and Mladen Pe�i? "Products of Africa Proconsularis province from the Croatian underwater sites".

The first NAS Introduction and Part I courses have finished in Zadar

From the 15th to 17 October 2012 International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar (ICUA) carried out its first courses according to Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) underwater archeology program. NAS Introduction to Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology and NAS Part I Certificate in Foreshore and Underwater Archaeology were finalized. Courses consisted of theoretical part in the ICUA classroom in Zadar, and practical lessons in underwater site at Ko�ino near Zadar. Four participants from different countries successfully joined the courses.

Rescue Research of the Roman boat in the river Ljubljanica, Slovenia

International Centre for Underwater Archaeology is actively engaged in the archaeological team led by Miran Eri? from Institute for Protection of Cultural heritage of Slovenia which explores sunken boat in Ljubljanica. Early Roman cargo wooden boat that was found in the river bed of Ljubljanica near Vrhnika is in danger due to future regulation of the river. The boat is being excavated from river sediments and documented by photogrammetry and drawings, so he could be moved to a nearby depository in the event that this part of the coast is pillared in defense against erosion.

NAS Underwater Archaeology courses start in Zadar in three weeks

As the ICUA Zadar has became one of the international training centres of Nautical Archeology Society (NAS) school of underwater archaeology, first courses are starting in Zadar in three weeks. A Introductory course and Part I course in foreshore and underwater archaeology are organized right now. More about this in our section Education / Events.
