German Library arrives in Zadar

International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar received for permanent use Von Petrikovits library consisting of over 6,000 titles in the field of archeology. Library will be, according to the contract that was previously made, used primarily by employees of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology (ICUA) and the University of Zadar as well as by other interested experts and students.

Lecture on Suleyman´s Bridge in Istanbul

On the invitation of Turkish Foundation for Underwater Archaeology (TINA) and their president Oguz Aydemir, on 8th October 2013 Mladen Peši? held a lecture about researches on the remains of the Suleiman´s bridge at Darda that took place during 2009 and 2011 by the employees of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in collaboration with the Croatian Conservation Institute.

Continuation of excavations at the cape Uljeva near Ližnjan

Scientific research at two ancient shipwrecks off Cape Uljeva near Ližnjan has continued this year. As in previous years, the two-week study was conducted by the Croatian - Slovenian team. Further documentation and excavation of remains of a early roman and one late Roman shipwreck took place. During this project, an underwater archaeology course was also underway. It was the second Advanced course in underwater archeology in organization of ICUA Zadar and UNESCO office in Venice.

Research vessel Hercules in Croatia again

This year's survey of Croatia's seabed with research vessel Hercules has finished. This is a continuation of cooperation between International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, the Ministry of Culture of Croatia and the RPM Nautical Foundation of Florida. The Minister of Culture, Prof. Andrea Zlatar Violi?, spent one working day on ship together with the research team. This year survey included seabed of Konavle north of cape Veliki Pa? and Župa Bay with use of sonars (multi-beam).

Two-week excavations on the island Babuljaš just ended

From 2. -14. July 2013 International Centre for Underwater Archaeology conducted systematic research on the site of ancient shipwrecks in the waters off the islet Babuljaš at Pakoštane. During the two-week excavations, the area of 4x4 m has been investigated and a number of interesting findings have been discovered. According to preliminary results, we have discovered remains of a shipwreck with a cargo of pottery and amphorae which travelled from the territory of North Africa at the end of the 4th or during 5th century.

A new meeting of the Parties to the Convention in Paris

From the 27th to the 30th of May 2013, a series of events related to the underwater heritage were held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. On Monday, the Exchange day, or a series of events open to the public, took place. During the day, many interesting speakers spoke, photo exhibitions on the theme of underwater heritage were also held and at the end of the day a documentary film Le Tresor De Bassas da India was shown.
